Here you can look up the definitions of the main terms we use in our LATAM Pass program:
Airline partners: are the airline companies - other than LATAM Airlines and oneworld airlines - that have an ongoing bilateral agreement with LATAM Airlines.
Account statement: is the only valid means of information where you can find out the amount of LATAM Pass Miles accumulated, redeemed or expired - both Elite Miles and Elite Dollars.
Benefits: exclusive services that are offered under the LATAM Pass program to members of certain categories, which do not require redemption of LATAM Pass Miles to use them, and which are acquired solely from being a member of the relevant category.
Check-in: is the process that allows you to board a flight. If you complete the check-in on our website you can select your seat and obtain your boarding pass in advance.
Connection: is a stop between the point of origin and the point of destination, where you will disembark from the airplane and change to another flight number in which you will continue your trip onto your final destination with the same airline or an airline that has a current alliance with LATAM Airlines.
Cabin class: refers to the different types of services offered on LATAM Airline flights. Passengers may choose to travel in Economy, Premium Economy or Premium Business class.
Cabin upgrade: is the upgrade of a passenger to a superior cabin class, without having purchased the ticket that corresponds to that particular class.
Commercialized flight: is a flight you purchased via our website but that is on an airline with which LATAM has no alliance. As such, since the flight is not operated or commercialized by LATAM, you cannot accumulate miles under our frequent flyer program, but it does allow you to accumulate Elite Miles. For example: your flight from Santiago to Bangkok, with a connection in Sao Paulo. The first segment is operated by LATAM Airlines and the second is operated by Lufthansa, which is not a oneworld or partner airline, but it is the only airline available on your itinerary.
Domestic flight: is a flight operated by LATAM, airlines of the oneworld alliance or partner airlines, whose origin and destination are both in the same country. These may also be referred to as national flights.
Elite categories: are our four premium categories (Gold, Platinum, Black and Black Signature) that grant access to exclusive benefits.
Embargo: is the period in which you cannot use the rewards and/or benefits redeemed with LATAM Pass Miles, whether it is on flights of LATAM Airlines, oneworld companies, airline partners and/or partner companies.
Elite Miles: amount earned up to December 31, 2018 to qualify for an Elite category. These would calculated based on the distance flown with LATAM, multiplied by a percentage that would vary, depending on the chosen cabin class, fare category and flight (domestic or international). Keep in mind that Elite Miles will be used for the Elite categories’ qualification process in March 2019.
Elite member: is our frequent flyer passenger subscribed to the LATAM Pass program. The passenger has a unique member number and belongs to a particular category.
Fare categories: are the types of fares available for purchasing your domestic and international flight tickets, opting for a lower fare or one which offers more flexibility and benefits. The fare categories for domestic flights are: Promo, Light, Plus and Top; and for international flights they are: Base, Access, Control and Flex.
Fast Track: exclusive benefit for Platinum, Black and Black Signature members to save time and make the boarding process more efficient when you pass through security checks at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) international airport in New York.
International flight: is a flight operated by LATAM, airlines of the oneworld alliance or partner airlines, whose origin and destination are in two or more countries.
LATAM Pass Miles: the current unit of measure that is used to accumulate and redeem for fares, products and/or services.
LATAM Pass Service Fee: a service fee charged each time a redemption is made through our Contact Center, for every reward issued.
Legs: are flights from one destination to another, with or without stopover, that have the same flight number.
Marketed flight: is a flight sold and commercialized by LATAM but that is not necessarily operated by LATAM. For example: on your flight from Santiago to New York, with a connection in Miami, the first segment is operated by LATAM and the second is operated by American Airlines, which is a oneworld airline.
Oneworld airlines: are the airline companies - other than LATAM Airlines - that belong to the oneworld alliance.
Open Jaw: a flight whose point of destination of the trip on the outbound leg is different to the point of origin on the inbound leg (for example: a trip going outbound from Santiago to New York, but returning from Los Angeles to Santiago).
Operated flight: is a flight on an airplane operated by LATAM that may or may not have been sold by LATAM. For example: your flight from Santiago to Sao Paulo, operated by LATAM Airlines or LATAM Airlines Brazil.
Password: is a personal identification number that LATAM Airlines give to its members or which is set up by directly by members. The password contains between 6 and 8 digits, and it is the exclusive responsibility of each member to maintain the privacy and security of their password at all times. LATAM Airlines is not liable for fraud or unauthorized redemptions made with the password or for changes or adulteration of the password.
Partner companies: are all companies participating in the LATAM Pass program - other than the airline partners - whose services allow you to accumulate LATAM Pass Miles and/or use the rewards or benefits of the LATAM Pass program.
Qualifying Points: these are the new unit of measurement for the LATAM Pass program, which are used to qualify for our Elite categories. They are calculated based on the amount of dollars spent on the purchase of tickets, discounting taxes, duties and additional services. The amount you earn depends on the multiplier applied based on the destination of your flight, and whether it is domestic or international.
Retroactive accumulation: accumulation of LATAM Pass Miles already flown on flights of LATAM Airlines, oneworld or airline partners, which are not shown on your account statement.
Rewards: are the fares, products or services designated under the LATAM Pass program as those that can be obtained by redeeming accumulated LATAM Pass Miles.
Rewards Table: is the table that outlines the amount of LATAM Pass Miles required to redeem for certain rewards and/or benefits.
Segments: are flights from one destination to another, with or without stopover, that have the same flight number.
Sold flight: is a flight you purchased via our website but that is on an airline with which LATAM has no alliance. Therefore, since LATAM does not operate or market it, you will not able to earn LATAM Pass Miles.
For example: your flight from Santiago to Johannesburg, with a connection in Sao Paulo. The first segment is operated by LATAM Airlines and the second is operated by South African Airways, which is not an oneworld or affiliated airline, but it is the only airline available on your itinerary.
Special segments: these are LATAM flights of over 1,600 kilometers in distance, earned until December 31, 2018, in Premium Economy and Premium Business cabin classes, between one destination and another, with or without stopover, that have the same flight number. These will be used for the Elite categories’ qualification process until March 2019.
Stopover: is a technical stop between the point of origin and the point of destination, where passengers must wait (usually remaining in the airplane or in the airport) for a short interval before continuing onto their final destination.
