Pets in cabin

We know your pet is important to you. That’s why LATAM allows passengers to travel with pets on board most LATAM routes, provided it complies with the size and breed conditions for safe transport in the cabin or hold of the airplane.

To travel on board, your dog or cat must:

  • Be in good health.
  • Be docile.
  • Be at least 8 weeks old, except in the United States where it must be at least 4 months old.

To ensure safe boarding, your pet can’t be sedated and must meet all travel requirements.

Bag or travel crate

In order to travel with your pet in the Economy cabin, it must travel inside a rigid or soft crate that meets the following requirements:

Travel bag

Measurements:

36 cm long X 33 cm wide X 23 cm high

Weight (pet + container):

  • 7 kg / 15 lbs
  • 10 kg / 22 lbs on flights within Colombia

The bag must be secure to ensure your pet won’t escape during flight.

Travel crate

Measurements:

36 cm long X 33 cm wide X 19 cm high

Weight (pet + container)

  • 7 kg / 15 lbs
  • 10 kg / 22 lbs on flights within Colombia

To ensure pet safety, the crate must have a metallic door with double locks that ensures its snout and paws won’t get suck in the openings.

General considerations

  • The crate can’t have wheels
  • It must fit under the seat in front of you. For safety reasons, we can’t assign you a seat in the first row or in the emergency exit row.
  • It must be made out of durable material that your pet can’t destroy.
  • It must be big enough for your pet to move and turn around.
  • It must have an absorbent, leak-proof base and adequate ventilation.

It’s extremely important that you make sure the bag or crate is in good conditions to travel. If the crate doesn’t comply with our requirements, your pet won’t be able to board the airplane.

Documentation

To board with your pet, you must present a certificate from a veterinarian issued up to 10 days before the flight. You must also present additional documents required on some routes:

Domestic flights

  • From Santiago to Easter Island: Animal Export Certificate (Zoosanitario de Exportacion, CZE) issued by the Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) that requires, among other items, that dogs and cats be registered in the National Registry of Pets or Companion Animals.
  • Within Colombia: Vaccination certificate indicating the professional license number of the veterinarian.
  • Within Brazil: Current anti-rabies vaccine card, recommended for pets older than 90 days. After receiving the first dose, your pet must wait 30 days before boarding an airplane. If this period hasn’t passed or if the vaccine is no longer valid, your pet won’t be allowed to travel.

International flights

Animal Export Certificate (Zoosanitario de Exportacion, CZE) issued by the authorities in your pet’s country of origin or departure that requires, among other items, that dogs and cats be registered in the National Registry of Pets or Companion Animals and in the National Registry of potentially dangerous dogs (if applicable).

Remember that the information about the documentation required for these routes is for your reference only and may change without prior notice. That’s why we recommend you contact the health authority or consulate of the countries you’ll be visiting. Review more information at the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
