Our pet transportation service allows your dog or cat to travel with you in the cabin or in the airplane’s hold on most routes. In order to do this, your pet must be in good health, be docile and be at least 8 weeks old. In the United States, your pet must be 4 months old.

 

Every country has its own health and/or documentation restrictions, which is why we recommend you contact the health authority or consulate of the country you’re visiting. Review more information at the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

In the cabin

In order to travel with your pet in the Economy cabin, it must travel inside a rigid or soft carrier that meets the following requirements:

  • Weighs up to 7 kg./15 lb. (pet and carrier combined).
  • Measure 19x36x33cm if it’s solid or 23x36x33cm if it’s soft (height, length, width).
  • Not have wheels.
  • Fits under the seat in front of you. For safety reasons, we can’t assign seats in the first row or in the exit row.
  • Has a zipper that ensures the pet won’t escape during the flight.
  • Is made of resistant material and has a waterproof, absorbent base.
  • Has enough space to be able to move and turn around.
  • Has adequate ventilation.

Your pet cannot travel while sedated.

How to request this service

At one of our sales offices, at the airport or through the Contact Center, at the time of your reservation or up to 24 hours before flight departure time. The service is subject to its availability on your flight.

Documentation

  • Certificate from a veterinarian issued within 10 days before the flight.
  • If you reside in Chile and are traveling abroad or to Easter Island, you must present an Animal Export Certificate (Zoosanitario de Exportacion, CZE) issued by the Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) that requires, among other items, that dogs and cats be registered in the National Registry of Pets or Companion Animals.
  • If you are traveling within Colombia, you must present its ID or vaccination certificate, indicating the veterinarian’s professional license number.

Please have in mind that this service is not available in our Boeings 767 and 787. 

In the hold

If your pet exceeds the size or weight allowance for travel in the cabin, it must travel in the hold of the airplane in a carrier that meets the following requirements:

  • Weighs up to 45 kg. (pet and carrier combined) or up to 32 kg. if you are traveling to or from Europe, Oceania, Argentina and Aruba.
  • Is 115 cm. tall and 300 lineal cm. (width + height + length).
  • Not have wheels
  • Is made of resistant material and have a waterproof, absorbent base.
  • Has enough space to be able to move and turn around.
  • Has adequate ventilation.
  • Has a double-locked, metallic door.
  • Has a water bottle that allows your pet to drink water during the flight without leaking.

For the safety and well-being of your pets, we cannot transfer certain dog breeds or brachycephalic cats in the hold of the plane.

Your pet cannot travel while sedated.

Restricted breeds

If your pet is one of the breeds mentioned previously, you may only take it on board with you, provided it complies with the conditions for transporting pets in the cabin. 

If you are traveling to New York or Boston between December 15 and March 15, you can only travel with your pet in the cabin if it complies with the on board transportation conditions. We have to cancel hold transportation services during these months due to low temperatures.

How to request this service

At one of our sales offices, at the airport or through the Contact Center, at the time of your reservation or up to 48 hours before flight departure time. On routes within Brazil, you can request this service up to 2 months before flight departure.

Documentation

  • Certificate from a veterinarian. The validity of the certificate is defined by the health authority of the country you’re visiting.
  • If you reside in Chile and are traveling abroad or to Easter Island, you must present an Animal Export Certificate (Zoosanitario de Exportacion, (CZE) issued by the Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) that requires, among other items, that dogs and cats be registered in the National Registry of Pets or Companion Animals.

Keep in mind that:

  • Our pet transportation service is not available to or from the Galapagos Islands, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Papeete or England. It isn’t available if your flight has connections with other airlines or code share flights.
  • In some countries, a tax corresponding to the service will be charged.
  • If your flight includes a stop that allows you to leave the airport, you must pay for each leg of the trip until reaching your final destination. 
  • Changes and refunds are subject to the conditions of the fare you purchased and must be requested before flight departure.
  • Natural disaster search dogs, with prior authorization, travel for free when traveling to or from humanitarian missions.
