Flights to and from Brazil

For flights that depart from, arrive to or connect in Brazil purchased before May 18, 2017, review the terms and conditions of baggage allowance.

Standard weight and size of each bag

  • Linear dimension: 158 cm. (width + height + length) or 62 in.
  • Weight: 23 kg. (50 lb)
  • You must pay for additional baggage if your bag exceeds these dimensions or weight restrictions.
  • If your bag exceeds the dimension restrictions of 300 lineal centimeters or 45 kilos (except flights within Brazil, where the limit is 60 kilos), you will not be able to transport it in the hold, but you may transport it with LATAM Cargo. For flights purchased starting May 18, 2017, the maximum weight allowance on flights within Brazil is 45 kg.

Your baggage will always be labeled with the final destination of your trip. Your baggage will be labeled to the final destination of your trip, as long as the flights are within the same reservation.
In spite of the above, in some cases you must remove it at the point of connection to carry out processes such as Customs or change of airport, and return it to the check-in counters.

On LATAM itineraries, the most permissive baggage allowance will apply when the entire itinerary is on the same reservation.

The weight and items permitted in your baggage are for you only and cannot be transferred to other passengers.

Baggage allowance for your flight route and cabin category

Review your baggage allowance if you purchased your flight before May 18, as you can may have a different allowance to that detailed below depending on your trip.

Flights within Chile, Peru, Brazil, Colombia or Ecuador

Now you can choose how much baggage you want to bring on your domestic flights Chile, Peru, Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador. Select your option when buying your ticket, checking-in, or at LATAM offices around the country or in the airport.

If you bought your ticket before the following dates, the conditions of your purchase will remain the same and you can check your bag at no additional cost:

  • Chile before May 20.
  • Peru before June 10.
  • Brazil before June 24.
  • Colombia before July 8. 
  • Ecuador before July 8.

For tickets bought after these dates, the conditions are as follows:

  • Promo and Light Fares: do not include checked baggage, but you can pay for a checked bag when you need it. 
  • Plus Fare: includes the first piece of luggage at no cost.
  • Top Fare: includes the first and second piece of luggage at no cost.

Furthermore, LATAM Pass Black, Black Signature, and Platinum members may bring additional piece of luggage, weighing up to 23 kilos, no matter which fare they choose. LATAM Pass Gold members with a WorldMember Limited, WorldMember  or Platinum Santander LATAM Pass credit card are also entitled to this benefit.

If you prefer, you can always travel with only your carry-on baggage, as long as it doesn’t exceed the size and weight conditions.

Flights within Brazil

For national and international flights from Brazil, you can pay for three items of luggage via our website.

Flights to Easter Island

You may take 2 pieces of luggage weighing up to 23 kilos each in the Economy Cabin and 3 pieces of luggage weighing up to 23 kilos each in the Premium Business or Premium Economy cabins at no cost. If you want to bring an extra item of luggage please review our excess luggage policy

Flights within Argentina

On domestic flights within Argentina, 1 bag weighing 23 kg is allowed.

Please note: due to local legislation, on flights to or from Argentina, you can take up to 32 kg per item of luggage, and you must pay for any excess weight above the maximum allowance permitted on your route. The same rule applies for connecting flights with Air Canada, British Airways, Iberia and Qantas. We recommend that before you travel, you check the limit of each company to find out how much you will be charged for excess baggage.

Regional flights

Between Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay

  • 1 bag weighing 23 kg when you travel in the Economy cabin.
  • 3 bags weighing 23 kg each when you travel in the Premium Business or Premium Economy cabins.

Please note: based on local legislation, on flights to or from Argentina, you can take up to 32 kg per item of luggage, and you must pay for any excess weight above the maximum allowance permitted on your route. The same rule applies for connecting flights with Air Canada, British Airways, Iberia and Qantas. International flights

Flights between South America and North America (the United States, Canada and Mexico)

  • For flights between South and North America, if you’re traveling in the Economy cabin, you can take 2 bags weighing 23 kg each. For the Premium Business and Premium Economy cabins you can take up to 3 bags weighing 23 kg each.

Flights between South America and Europe, Africa or Oceania

For flights between South America and Europe, Oceania or Africa, if you’re traveling in the Economy cabin you can take 2 bags weighing 23 kg each (except on the direct route between Madrid and Santiago, review the following information). For the Premium Business or Premium Economy cabins you can take up to 3 bags weighing 23 kg each.

If your trip includes a transatlantic flight on a direct route between Madrid and Santiago:

  • If you’re traveling in the Economy cabin, you can take one bag weighing 23 kg.
  • For the Premium Business or Premium Economy cabins, you can take 3 bags weighing 23 kg each.

Flights between South America and the Caribbean (Aruba, Cuba and the Dominican Republic)

  • If you’re traveling in the Economy cabin, you can take one bag weighing 23 kg.
  • For the Premium Business or Premium Economy cabins, you can take 3 bags weighing 23 kg each.

Important: The Caribbean does not include Cancun.

Flights between North American countries, Oceanic countries and European countries or flights between Tahiti and Easter Island and between North America and the Caribbean

  • If you’re traveling in the Economy cabin, you can take one bag weighing 23 kg.
  • For the Premium Business or Premium Economy cabins, you can take 3 bags weighing 23 kg each.

Baggage allowance on connecting flights with other airline companies

Your luggage will be labeled to the final destination of your trip as long as the different flights are on the same reservation. In spite of this, in some cases you will have to remove your luggage at the connecting points to carry out customs procedures or change airports. This procedure also applies if you must stay overnight at the airport. The luggage must then be dispatched back to the check-in counters

Baggage allowance for children aged under 2 years

The permitted allowance of checked baggage for children aged under 2 years (between 0 and 23 months) is 1 bag of 23 kg (50 lb).

For fares purchased before May 18th, 2017 for routes between Brazil and Europe or Brazil and the USA the hold luggage that a child under 2 (between 0 and 23 months) may bring is 1 item weighing 32kg or 71lb.

If there is available space, they may also take one of the following items with them in the cabin of the aircraft:

  • A foldaway stroller.
  • A child safety chair approved for use on board aircraft.
  • A bassinet.

Special or oversized baggage

Traveling with sports equipment, musical instruments or televisions and monitors? The following items are considered as special baggage and may be checked on LATAM Airlines flights. Please review the conditions for this type of baggage.

If your baggage exceeds the allowed combined length, width and height measurements - between 62.6 inches (158 cm) and 118.1 inches (300 cm) - it will be considered overweight and subject to charge. Review all the information about the fees that apply to your trip's route.

 

Special Needs

You can bring the following hold baggage items free of cost:

  • A foldaway wheelchair, a pair of crutches or other orthopedic apparatus you may require as a mobility aid.
