Three Reasons Why: Rapa Nui (Easter Island)

Three Reasons Why Easter Island

Reason One: History

Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is famous for its Moai statues and the history and mystery they bring with it. The volcanic island is 2,300 miles from the coast of Chile, making it one of the most isolated places on earth. The Moai statues that inhabit the island can stand up to 40 feet tall, and weigh up to 75 tons. Recently it was discovered that the statues also have bodies that are buried beneath the heads.  The origins of these statues remains a mystery, although, according to legends the statues walked from quarries to their place on stone platforms.

Reason Two: Adventure

While Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is best known for its Moai statues, the island is an adventure-seekers paradise. Vast grasslands, hills, and rugged terrain make it ideal for both mountain and leisure bikers as well as for hikers. Horseback riding tours are also a popular attraction with excursions ranging in skill and activities. Those looking for a relaxing beach experience can head to the coast and get some sun, while those who prefer deep sea fishing or diving can also get their fix.

Reason Three: Landscape

The landscape of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is dominated by volcanic topography. The now extinct volcanoes are covered in grassy meadows with sightings of wild horses and scattered flowers. Although the land is mainly barren, modern establishments and commodities have turned Easter Island into an Island where you can enjoy the simple pleasures of life in luxury.
