Porto de Galinhas

Itamaracá Island

Disputed by the Portuguese and the Dutch in the 17th century, this island in northern Pernambuco is home to such structures as the Engenho São João and Fort Orange. Incidentally, speedboats and catamarans that go to Coroa do Avião, an islet filled with bars and restaurants, leave from the Fort.
