Located less than 30 miles [50 km] from the fishing village of José Ignacio, this is one of the first sustainable vineyards outside of North America. Keep an eye out on their Tannat wine.
Chilean architect Smilan Radij designed this futuristic winery located 125 miles [200 km] from Santiago. There, they use blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Merlot and Syrah grapes. At the entrance there are reflecting pools decorated with a variety of rocks alongside the walkways that help to cool the underground cellar.
To celebrate its 125th anniversary, this winery commissioned a structure to protect a 1910 stand from architect Zaha Hadid. The result is a modern work in the shape of a decanter integrated to the historic building, where they sell and offer tasting sessions of wines elaborated with Spanish grape varieties like Tempranillo, Garnacha and Viura.
In the surrounding area, the landscape is dominated by the Andes. The building, with an almost spatial architecture, is home to the restaurant Urban O. Fournier. From there, you can see the peaks of Cordón del Plata while sampling wines made from such grape varieties as Tempranillo or Malbec.
