Run by chef Michael Alejandro, who studied in France, Atelier is one of the best restaurants in the city. Try the ropa vieja (traditional local stewed beef) and the grilled lobster accompanied by an incredible mojito made with aged rum. Decorated with old objects and furniture, the terrace invites you for hours of relaxation.
Located in the middle of the most charming plaza in Old Havana, Plaza del Cristo, this small tapas bar welcomes locals and tourists. The menu features traditional creole recipes like shrimp with pineapple. Arrive early in order to get a table next to the parapet and see the bustling neighborhood from above.
This restaurant connects Havana with any cosmopolitan city in the world with its décor and cool atmosphere. El Del Frente has air conditioning, excellent service and great food. Try the tuna tataki. The bar 304 O’Reillys, located across from the restaurant, has the same owners.
The most famous and elegant Cuban restaurant, used as a location for the movie Strawberry and Chocolate (1993), is installed in a hundred-year-old residential building, spreading over several floors. On the top floor, a bar offers a view of the city center, the Malecón, and Havana’s blue ocean. Open every day from 6 p.m. (arrive at sunset).
