The best time of year to visit the city is during spring, which is the cherry blossom season. The trees were given as a gift by Japan in 1912.
A White House tour includes places like the library, the gardens, the dining room and the meeting room. For the first time in history since 2015, visitors have been allowed to take pictures and film the locale.
On the ground floor of the Capitol, which has been the seat of the United States Congress since 1800, an exhibition contains documents and interactive works that demonstrate the role of the House in the country’s decisive moments. Taking a picture with the façade in the background is mandatory.

The district of Georgetown features a mix of international and local brands, like the Phoenix (1514 Wisconsin Avenue NW), a women’s clothes and art store that has been in the neighborhood since 1955. Georgetown Cupcake (3301 M Street NW) is a must-go as well.
For classic and modern drinks, a good option is the Barmini, which specializes in modern mixology.
The Willard, founded in 1850, is where Abraham Lincoln stayed with his family before becoming the president of the United States. The hotel also might be the place where Martin Luther King wrote his famous speech “I Have a Dream.”
Washington is home to the Smithsonian, the biggest research and exhibition complex in the world, containing 19 museums and galleries. Among them are the National Museum of the American Indian (4th Street & Independence Avenue SW), the National Museum of African American History (600 Maryland Avenue SW) and the National Air and Space Museum (600 Independence Avenue SW).
The city has the second most used subway system in the United States. With over 90 stations, it services the entire metropolitan area.
The scene has changed in the last couple of years with the arrival of such establishments as Rose’s Luxury, owned by Aaron Silverman, who worked with David Chang, of Momofuku, in New York. Obama’s favorite address, it serves dishes inspired by Asian cuisine.
