Counter

Where the airline staff assists passengers, inspects their documents and checks their luggage. It’s the first step to start a trip; then, passengers need to go to the boarding area.

Ailerons

A control surface located at the vertical stabilizer (tail) of the plane that controls the yawing motion through pedals. Its main function is to turn the aircraft in a coordinated manner, together with the flaps.

Cowling

A removable covering for the engine which, in addition to protecting it, contributes to the plane’s aerodynamics by streamlining the airflow and helping to cool the engine, guiding the air around the cylinders.

Pitot tube

An instrument that measures the total pressure (the sum of dynamic and static pressure) during flight.

Stripes

They “decorate” the sleeves and shoulders of pilot uniforms. There can be two, three or four stripes, which indicate the pilot’s level of flight experience and their responsibility in an aircraft.
