We explored the savannah in South Africa and saw rhinos running
OUR EXPECTATION Going on a safari in Africa may be on the bucket list of any adventurous traveler. During our trip from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit, one of the access points to Kruger National Park, in South Africa, I imagined many possibilities of scenery that we could find, based on everything I had watched, read and heard from friends that had had this experience.
OUR ITINERARY We stayed at the Royal Malewane, a paradise in the middle of the savannah. While we attentively listened to the hotel’s recommendations regarding our itinerary and safety, we became even more excited.
THE PINNACLE The pinnacle of this experience was when, during one of the safaris, it was suggested that we walk around to see the animals in different angles. With each step I took and each dried leaf that I stepped on, my heartbeat raced more and more, as I didn’t know what we could find. With a sharp sense of hearing, our guides quickly figured out what the sound that was getting closer was: a group of rhinoceroses running! Considering how rare these animals are and their size, it was one of the most surreal experiences I’ve ever had.
