Three days in Bariloche:

fun in all seasons of the year

image

Bariloche is a famous skiing destination. The lack of snow does not make a difference, though: the exuberant nature, special cuisine – with mutton, fondues, trout, and smoked cheese spicing up menus –, and the traditional chocolate shops and local breweries amuse visitors, even when temperature rises in north of Argentine Patagonia

DAY 1: MOUTAIN AND RELAXING

images

TiendaCiervo

Those who wanted to shop for warmer clothes in loco will find the best design pieces at Tienda Ciervo: items made in small quantities, with exclusive and creative patterns inspired by the culture of the mountains.

Teleférico

A cable car takes visitors up to Cerro Otto, at 4,600 feet, changing their perspective of the Nahuel Huapi Lake. From there, you have a 360-degree view of the horizon: you can see the lake, downtown, and other hills.

Llao Llao

Distant from downtown and close to nature, the hotel has two wings connected by a hallway: one is rustic and was opened in the 1930s; and the other is clean and modern, opened in 2007 – both are encircled by Lake Moreno.

Llao Llao’s Day Spa

Non-guests looking to start their trip with a moment of relaxation can buy a Llao Llao day spa package, which includes hot stone massage and access to the gym, pool, and sauna. You can also participate in the hotel’s recreation activities.

Café Patagonia

One of the four restaurants in the hotel, it’s a good place to try the flavors of the region: a selection of smoked cheese, trout and a diced brownie served with dulce de leche and maria-mole for dessert.

DAY 2: LAKE AND FUN AT NIGHT

images

Boat ride

From Puerto Pañuelo harbor, catamarans cross Nahuel Huapi Lake. The first stop is Isla Victoria, from where you can go hiking on three trails with varying levels of difficulty. Next stop is at Bosque de Arrayanes, with its preserved native woods. The entire trip from check-in to return takes seven and a half hours.

Butterfly

You need to pay attention in order not to miss this restaurant's street. The idea is that the place remains for a select few – the dining room has seven tables and the house is reservations only. The tasting menu includes dishes such as soup of green peas with toasted hazelnuts and a flavorsome crayfish served with beetroot, white chocolate, and passionfruit-avocado sauces.

IceBariloche

An obligatory stop for tourists, IceBariloche is the city’s ice bar and an attraction that is worth visiting for its irreverence. With a pop soundtrack and a constant temperature of 37 °F [3 °C], the bar features an ice mammoth and a sculpture of Olaf, from the movie Frozen – the place’s most photographed spot. Among the drinks, choose Sex on the Beach.

DAY 3: CIRCUITO CHICO AND CHOCOLATE

images

City Tour

The basic tour for people visiting the city, Circuito Chico is offered by travel agencies – you can also take it by yourself, renting a car or by bus. The route follows the road around Nahuel Huapi Lake. In a couple of hours, you can cover Cerro Campanario, the picturesque Colonia Suiza, and the panoramic overlook at Km 23 on the road.

Cerveceria Patagonia

Featured in the Circuito Chico, it has an unforgettable view of Lake Moreno. With bold architecture – modern chandeliers, hand-written panels –, it could well be located in any big city in the world, but the mutton burger and the Andes, which can be viewed from the window, leave no room to question where this bar belongs.

Mamuschka

Mamuschka is a reference in quality chocolate in Bariloche – with artisanal production, it has been in business for nearly 27 years. Located on a spacious corner lot downtown, the store seems to be in perpetual Christmas spirit – perhaps because of the predominantly red decoration, perhaps because of the chocolate aroma.
