This massive nature reserve, which has an area of 2 million hectares, is a world reference when it comes to safaris. Lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards and rhinoceroses (known as the Big Five) circulate freely through the savannas, alongside hundreds of other species. Private reserves, for guests only, offer luxurious lodges and tours in open vehicles, which have seating for fewer people and are authorized to venture off-road. Meanwhile, public areas feature average infrastructure, like bathrooms and kitchens. Tourists can stay in huts, trailers or camping tents, and drive themselves or book a private tour organized by SANParks, the agency responsible for all national parks in South Africa. Vehicles must stay on the park’s marked roads at all times. Visitors can also take guided tours on foot, ATVs or even in a balloon or helicopter.
