The state capital of Minas Gerais has a population of 2.5 million inhabitants, is the sixth largest city in Brazil and an important economic hub. Belo Horizonte owes its name to the impressive landscapes of hills and was the first planned urban area of the country, at the beginning of the 20th century. Among its attractions, the Pampulha or Praça da Liberdade reflect its identity, a mixture of modern architecture and large skyscrapers with colonial buildings that are part of its heritage, along with pleasant ecological walks. Its rural traditions are found in its gastronomy and crafts.
