Capital of the State of Maranhão, is a unique city on the northeast coast of Brazil where, since its origin, white, indian and black ethnic groups have coexisted, aspect which allowed the development of a rich historical and cultural heritage. The center of São Luís feels like a journey through time, dominated by cobbled streets and more than 3,500 colonial buildings with a strong Portuguese influence. Popularly known as the 'Brazilian Jamaica', it is land of reggae since many of its exponents have been born in this region.
