Party time
The period between December and February is the most exciting in Punta. The nightclubs fill up, the paradores (as the beach clubs are known) serve round after round of clerico, and events like fashion shows and music and food festivals take over the city.
In the peninsula between Playa Mansa and Playa Brava stands the Hotel Conrad, a giant that never sleeps: it’s home to the main casino in the region and the nightclub OVO. Incidentally, Punta has its own time zone – people only go to the beach after 2 p.m., beach parties start at 5 p.m., and dinner is served around 11 p.m. Nightclubs start to fill up after 1 a.m.
To unwind
Yes, Punta also has relaxing activities. Casapueblo, located in the peninsula of Punta Ballena, is a charming building that serves as an art gallery, hotel, museum and restaurant. It gets crowded in the late afternoon, when visitors gather to see the sunset.
José Ignacio, a more discreet and low profile hideaway than Punta, is a lovely rocky beach with restaurants on the sand. It’s a 40-minute drive from Punta del Este.
